Welcome Letter

Dear Families,                                                                      

Welcome to 1st Grade!  I am excited about the opportunity to work with you and your child this year. I am looking forward to a happy and productive school year.

Curriculum areas we will focus on this year include, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, health, art, and music.  All students will strive to be the following: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective.

Your child will only need a backpack. Students should not bring any other items in their backpacks. Toys or any other distracting items are not allowed in our classroom or during recess/lunch. I will provide a two-pocket homework folder that your child will bring to school every day. If your child will bring a snack or lunch to school, please put it in a lunch pail/box. Please label ALL of your child’s belongings with their name (including backpacks, jackets, sweaters, lunch boxes, water bottle, etc.) with permanent marker. Also, please provide a water bottle for your child daily. Students are expected to wear school uniforms daily.

I will give homework Monday through Friday, which includes practice in language arts and/or mathematics.  In addition, a weekly reading log (students should read at least 40 minutes per week/10 minutes per day) will be given every Monday and needs to be turned in every Friday. It is imperative that you READ EVERYDAY with your child, or they will fall behind.  I am attaching all of the high-frequency words your child will have to know by the end of 1st grade. I will also include a copy of the Kinder words for practice. Please have a quiet workspace (with pencils, an eraser, crayons, scissors, and glue) at home available for your child to do homework. 

Please have your child come to school on time and prepared with completed homework.  School begins at 8:25 a.m.  I will pick up the students from the Elementary Yard.

If possible, feel free to donate any of the following items:

• Cleaning/Disinfecting Wipes
• Liquid Antibacterial Hand Soap (pump or refill)
• Printer paper
• One white 1-inch 3 ring Avery binder (for your child’s use)

Queridas familias,

¡Bienvenidos al primer grado! Estoy emocionada por la oportunidad de trabajar con usted y su hijo/a este año. Tendremos un año escolar feliz y productivo.

Las áreas del plan de estudios en las que nos centraremos este año incluyen artes del lenguaje, matemáticas, ciencias, estudios sociales, educación física, salud, arte y música. Todos los estudiantes se esforzaran por ser los siguientes: indagadores, conocedores, pensadores, comunicadores, con principios, de mente abierta, solidarios, tomadores de riesgos, equilibrados y reflexivos.

Su hijo/a únicamente necesitará una mochila de tamaño normal. Los estudiantes no deben traer nada más en sus mochilas. Juguetes o cualquier otra distracción no son permitidos en nuestra clase o durante recreo/almuerzo. Yo les proporcionaré una carpeta de tareas de dos bolsillos que su hijo/a traerá a la escuela todos los días. Si su hijo va a traer un refrigerio o almuerzo a la escuela, por favor póngalo en una caja / balde para el almuerzo. Etiquete TODAS las pertenencias de su hijo con su nombre (incluidas las mochilas, chaquetas, suéteres, loncheras, botella de agua, etc.) con marcador permanente. Por favor provea una botella con agua para su hijo/a a diario.

Daré tarea de lunes a viernes, que incluye práctica en artes del lenguaje y/o matemáticas. Además, todos los lunes se entregará un registro de lectura semanal (los estudiantes deben leer al menos 40 minutos por semana / 10 minutos por día) y debe entregarlo todos los viernes. Es imperativo que LEA TODOS LOS DÍAS con su hijo, o se retrasará. Adjunto encontrará todas las palabras de uso frecuente que su hijo deberá saber al finalizar el 1er grado. También incluiré una copia de las palabras de Kinder para practicar. Tenga un espacio de trabajo tranquilo (con lápices, una goma de borrar, crayones, tijeras y pegamento) en casa disponible para que su hijo haga la tarea.

Por favor, asegúrese que su hijo llegue a la escuela a tiempo y esté preparado con la tarea completa. La escuela comienza a las 8:25 a.m. Recogeré a los estudiantes del patio de primaria.

Si es posible, por favor donar alguno de estos artículos:

• Toallitas de limpieza
• Jabón de manos líquido antibacteriano (bomba o recambio)
• Papel de imprimir copias
• Una carpeta blanca de 1 pulgada de 3 anillos (para su hijo/a)
