Background:
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was founded in 1909 by leaders of the African American community including writer and scholar W.E.B. Du Bois, journalist Ida B. Wells, and others. Their purpose was to bring justice to African Americans in the United States especially in the areas of segregation and lynching. Lawyers for the NAACP formed a strategy to end segregation by testing the �separate but equal� clause in the courts.
Your team task is to:
- Study the history of the NAACP
- Identify the major strategies used to end segregation in public schools
- Identify the major characters
- Analyze the NAACP strategy
- Determine if other possible strategies were feasible
- Determine if the NAACP strategy was successful and if school segregation could have been ended sooner
Team Member #1: Internet Researcher
